Local musicians form new band - Blackbird - to perform with Robin Dean Salmon at the Marketplace Café in the Village of Oak Creek March 23 at 7 p.m. Blackbird comprises Robin Dean Salmon on guitar and vocals, Dan Bresnan on guitar, Hutch Hutchinson on bass and Gino Romeo on drums and percussion.

Salmon is an international recording artist performing worldwide as well as locally with his Americana inspired country rock and roll music. He has recently teamed up with Verde Valley musicians to perform Salmon's original music as Blackbird.

The Marketplace Café performance will feature material from Salmon's upcoming CD release at the end of May. The new CD is titled "Blackbird."

Salmon has been in the Verde Valley for about three years, according to Bresnan.

"I met Robin when he first moved here," Bresnan said.

Bresnan is a renowned luthier, and Salmon had contacted him to have some work done on a guitar.

"I am very excited about the band," Bresnan said. "Robin is a phenomenal performer. I think he is one of the best songwriters, period."

Bresnan said Blackbird does not have any plans at this time for a national tour. "We're just getting started," he said. "We're focusing on the regional venues."

Although, he did explain that Salmon will be touring as a solo performer.

Asked if Blackbird might record as a band in the future, Bresnan said it is possible. "We don't have any plans at this time to do that."

Robin Dean Salmon has performed nationally and throughout the Verde Valley. He has been writing, performing and releasing records in the alternative county rock catalog. His musical roots were a cross of musical legends Bob Wills, Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins. He also was influenced by contemporaries of punk rock such as U2, The Clash and The Ramones.

Dan Bresnan has performed for more than 30 years, writing and recording across a wide variety of musical styles. His performances represent many diverse influences. In addition to Blackbird, Bresnan regularly performs with The Bresnan Blues Band, the Rifftors and the Heavenly J's.

Hutch Hutchinson has performed throughout the Southwest and as far east as Texas and Kansas. He was a member of the legendary Northern Arizona blues/rock band, Dry Heat. Besides Blackbird, Hutch also regularly performs with Blues Dawg, The Bresnan Blues Band, the Rifftors and the Heavenly J's.

Gino Romeo has performed with numerous pop-rock bands and jazz ensembles. Living in Sedona, he performs with the Bresnan Blues Band, Robin Dean Salmon, Blackbird and Tom Tayback and the Daddy-O's. Gino has performed with a number of other artists in Northern Arizona including Cat Black, the Neon Raiders, the Tarantulas, and Motown cover artist Sammy Davis.

Marketplace Café is in the Oak Creek Outlets Mall at 6645 SR 179 at the junction with Jack's Canyon Road. Reservations for the performance are recommended. Call (928) 284-5487.
