Canyon Railroad hosts annual Chocolate Lovers' Fesitval

Science says it's all in your head...but just like a love letter or heartfelt poem, chocolate captures your emotion and makes you feel warm and satisfied. Eyes will feast on the natural wonders of the Verde Canyon while other senses are lost in the enchantment of chocolate aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad's Chocolate Lovers' Festival.

Celebrate with your sweet Valentine aboard Arizona's longest-running nature show. One of the most anticipated events offered on rails, the Chocolate Lovers' Festival indulges the whole person. The journey features platters of decadent deserts, chocolate fountains and specialty drinks served up in a comfortable first-class car. This delectable spree for your senses is available Feb. 9-14.

If the weather is chilly, passengers snuggle on a love seat and watch nature's love story scroll by through the panoramic windows. Still, the rugged beauty uncoiling around every turn of the tracks will beckon all to an outdoor car to clear the heady perfume of chocolate from the mind.

On Feb. 20, raptor lovers can get up close and personal with the feathered friends from Scottsdale-based Liberty Wildlife and share the magic of rescued birds of prey. You can ask handlers questions and take photographs of these wonderful birds on the depot patio prior to the train's departure. Be sure to arrive early to spend time around these beautiful creatures.

Towering red rock cliffs protect nests of eagles, perhaps guarding precious eggs through the end of winter's chill. The Verde Canyon is a productive breeding area for bald eagles. Appropriate for Valentine's Day: eagles mate for life. Isn't it romantic?

The Verde Canyon Railroad's Chocolate Lovers' Festival runs February 9-14. In February the train runs every day except Tuesdays, departing at 1 p.m. and returning at 5 p.m., just in time to enjoy a feast of hearty cowboy vittles along with a rollicking evening of frontier activities, music and comedy at the newly-remodeled Blazin' M Ranch Wild West Adventure in nearby Cottonwood.

Only two hours from Phoenix, the Verde Canyon Railroad is the perfect Arizona day-trip. Reservations are accepted at 800-293-7245 or online at
