Caduceus Cellars, Merkin Vineyards establish new Velvet Slippers Club

JEROME -- Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards, owned by vintner Maynard James Keenan, announce their debut wine club, the Velvet Slippers Club.

The Velvet Slippers Club, which features three tiers of membership ranging from the vineyard's more well known varietals to an elite package featuring small production runs, features quarterly shipments of three bottles and exclusive merchandise from the boutique winery. Membership also includes exclusive invitations and complimentary tastings at Caduceus' Jerome, Ariz. tasting room.

"The Velvet Slippers Club is a critical step towards establishing and sustaining our small family owned and operated estate winery," explained Keenan. "Along with maintaining the integrity of our established wines, it will allow us to spend time with single barrel offerings of blends, block specific varietals, and happy accidents by providing an appreciative audience."

Arizona winemakers are beginning to receive national and international acclaim for their wines. In June a panel of wine experts recreated the 1976 Judgment of Paris as Arizona Judgment 2010 pitting Arizona wines against wines from California, France, Australia, Italy and Spain in a blind taste test. The panelists, which included Wine Library's Gary Vaynerchuck, Neyers Vineyard's Tadeo Borchardt and the 21 Club's Anne Rosenzweig, awarded Caduceus Cellars' 2008 Nagual del Judith the top spot amongst red wines. Adding to the growing awareness of this new wine region, a documentary titled Blood Into Wine focusing on Keenan and his area vineyards has now screened in over 100 cities worldwide and will be released on DVD Sept. 7.
